Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, 29; Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, 30; and Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”.
According to a police situational report, the incident occurred on August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when a group of armed men reportedly attacked the deceased’s gold-buying shop and shot him in the chest.
Seth Kobina was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage from the scene, allegedly identified Amponsah as the leader of the suspected robbery gang.
Police arrested Amponsah on August 21, 2026, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search on him reportedly led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
The suspect subsequently fell ill and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Seyiri, Ibrahim and Odoom within the Agona Nkwanta area.
Quayeson, another alleged accomplice, was later arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence reportedly resulted in the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, Quayeson allegedly identified Amponsah as the person who shot and killed Seth Kobina. He also reportedly identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The police said the suspects are assisting with investigations as efforts continue to apprehend other persons believed to have been involved in the robbery and murder.
