2026 BECE: Only 17% of candidates record aggregates between 6 and 18

Only about 17 per cent of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) obtained aggregates between 6 and 18, according to data from the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat.

The Coordinator of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPP) Sherif Sulemana has disclosed the figures while discussing the overall performance of candidates in the examination.

“If you look at the data for the performance of the candidates, we only had about 17 per cent of the candidates getting aggregates from 6 to 18,” he said.

He also provided a wider breakdown of the results, stating that about 252,000 candidates, representing approximately 35 per cent, obtained aggregates between 6 and 24.

“We only had about 252,000, or about 35 per cent of the candidates, getting from aggregate 6 to 24,” Mr Sulemana said.

The figures provide an indication of the distribution of BECE results among the approximately 620,000 candidates who sat the examination.

While 17 per cent achieved aggregates within the 6 to 18 range, the proportion increased to about 35 per cent when the range was extended to aggregate 24.

The performance figures were disclosed alongside the CSSPS Secretariat’s placement figures, which show that about 565,000 candidates met the requirements for Senior High School placement.

Mr Sulemana also said about 55,000 candidates did not qualify for placement, with failure in either English or Mathematics being one of the stated grounds for disqualification.
