The hardworking Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the 2026 Ghana-European Union Partnership Dialogue as a major success, emphasizing that the engagement has opened new avenues for deeper cooperation between Ghana and the European Union (EU).
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Foreign Affairs Minister noted that the dialogue represents a significant milestone in Ghana’s international relations, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen partnerships that promote economic transformation, trade expansion, and sustainable development.
According to Hon. Ablakwa, the European Union remains Ghana’s largest trading partner, and ongoing cooperation is being reshaped to align more closely with the priorities of the Government of Ghana.
He revealed that Ghana has become the first African country to sign a number of strategic partnership agreements with the EU across critical sectors, describing the development as a reflection of the growing confidence in Ghana’s leadership and diplomatic engagements.
“The 2026 Ghana-European Union Partnership Dialogue has been a resounding success,” the Minister stated, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is encouraged by the impact of a new comprehensive project database and coordination framework designed to improve efficiency and delivery across all 16 regions of Ghana.
Hon. Ablakwa stressed that Ghana’s current international cooperation agenda is focused on building stronger economic partnerships rather than dependency, with emphasis on trade, industrial growth, and value addition.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to moving away from the export of raw materials toward processing and adding value locally, while also pursuing health sovereignty through initiatives anchored on the Accra Reset Agenda and mutually beneficial partnerships.
The Foreign Affairs Minister also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for opening the dialogue, describing it as a historic moment in Ghana-EU relations.
According to him, President Mahama has become the only Ghanaian President to open the annual Ghana-EU dialogue and has done so twice since returning for his second term as President.
The successful dialogue, Hon. Ablakwa indicated, reinforces Ghana’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for citizens while advancing national development priorities.
The engagement between Ghana and the European Union is expected to further deepen cooperation in areas including trade, investment, health, technology, and sustainable development as both sides work toward a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership.
