Norway defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in an intense Round of 32 encounter on Tuesday evening in Texas, with Haaland scoring the crucial goal in the 87th minute to secure progression.
Antonio Nusa had given the Scandinavians a dream start with a stunning curled finish in the 40th minute, but the Elephants refused to surrender, with Amad Diallo's magnificent left-footed strike equalising in the 74th minute. The match swung back and forth with both teams creating genuine chances.

The Ivory Coast dominated large portions of the first half with their attacking prowess on display, yet found themselves trailing to Nusa's spectacular individual effort. The Elephants created numerous opportunities through Nicolas Pépé and Yan Diomandé on the wings but lacked the cutting edge to convert their dominance into goals. Nusa's goal came against the run of play as the Norwegian winger showed brilliant technique to pick out the top corner, catching the Ivorians off guard.

The second half proved an entirely different contest as Ivory Coast injected greater intensity into their play, with substitutions breathing fresh life into their attack. Amad Diallo's introduction proved transformative, the Manchester United midfielder combining brilliantly with Pépé down the right before unleashing a powerful finish that restored parity and set up a tense finale. Norway seemed to be tiring as the Elephants pressed relentlessly, leaving spaces at the back as they committed numbers forward in search of a winner.
The Cyborg saving the day
It was Erling Haaland who would have the final say. In the 87th minute, just when Ivory Coast sensed an opportunity to force extra time, Patrick Berg found the Manchester City striker with a perfectly weighted pass that left him clean through on goal. The Norwegian cyborg made no mistake, sliding the ball past goalkeeper Yahia Fofana into an empty net to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory. Haaland's ice-cold finish in the dying moments broke the Elephants' hearts and sent Norway through to the round of 16, in a cruel blow for Ivory Coast.
