GCAA probes alleged mistreatment of KLM passengers bound for Accra from Amsterdam

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched an investigation into the alleged mistreatment of passengers travelling on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Accra following widespread circulation of videos on social media.

The videos showed stranded passengers expressing dissatisfaction over their alleged treatment by the airline in Amsterdam in connection with KLM Flight KL059, which was scheduled to arrive in Accra on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Some of the affected passengers reportedly complained about a prolonged tarmac delay and the manner in which they were treated while awaiting the flight.

“The GCAA has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported tarmac delay and the alleged mistreatment of some passengers,” the Authority said in a press release issued on Sunday, June 28.

The aviation regulator said it had taken note of the videos circulating online and was treating the matter with concern.

According to the GCAA, passenger safety, security and consumer protection remain its top priorities as Ghana’s aviation regulator.

The Authority indicated that it would engage all relevant stakeholders as part of the investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

“The Authority will engage all relevant stakeholders and communicate the outcome of the investigation, where appropriate, in accordance with established regulatory procedures,” the statement added.

The GCAA further assured the public of its commitment to maintaining high standards within the country’s aviation sector.
