'You can't come and abuse Ghana's resources and run away to avoid accountability' – Edudzi slams Ken Ofori-Atta

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has asserted that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta cannot evade accountability by remaining outside Ghana while investigations into his tenure continue.

Speaking on TV3's Newsfile, Mr Tamakloe maintained that holding public office does not shield anyone from legal scrutiny or investigative processes after leaving office or relocating outside the country.

He argued that accountability must remain a fundamental principle of public service, stressing that state institutions should be able to pursue legitimate investigations irrespective of where a person of interest is located.

Drawing on examples from other jurisdictions, Mr Tameklo said former public officials in several countries have continued to face legal and investigative proceedings even after leaving office, demonstrating that accountability is not limited by national borders.

According to him, permitting public officials under investigation to remain outside the country's jurisdiction without facing due process undermines public confidence in governance and weakens the fight against corruption.

“You just came, abused this country’s resources and decide that let’s run away because we are above the law,” he said.

Mr Tameklo insisted that the effectiveness of Ghana's accountability institutions should not depend on the physical presence of individuals under investigation, adding that the rule of law must apply equally to all public officials regardless of their location.
