A senior member of the campaign team of former Education Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called on party members to put unity above internal disagreements as the NPP positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
Yaw Opoku Mensah, spokesperson for Dr Adutwum and a member of the NPP communications team, said the party must not allow personal grievances and internal disputes to derail its chances of returning to power.
In a statement titled, "Ghana's Future Cannot Be Sacrificed on the Altar of Bitterness. Let's Unite for 2028," Mr Opoku Mensah weighed in on the ongoing debate over the future of former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, urging party faithful to focus on reconciliation rather than division.
He argued that anyone familiar with Ghana's Fourth Republic would appreciate the ideological differences between the NPP and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that the NPP has consistently distinguished itself through policy innovation, institutional reforms, and transformative governance.
According to him, although the NPP is not without its shortcomings, many of Ghana's landmark development initiatives were conceived and implemented under its administrations.
Mr Opoku Mensah contrasted this with the record of the NDC, claiming the governing party has often relied on "expediency rather than vision, populism rather than long-term strategy, and reaction rather than innovation," and has failed to present bold policies capable of driving sustained national development.
He therefore urged party members who believe in visionary leadership and long term national development to channel their energies into rebuilding and strengthening the NPP instead of deepening internal divisions.
He stressed that personal ambitions, lingering resentment, and factional interests must not be allowed to overshadow the party's collective objective of winning back power in the 2028 elections.
“The road to 2028 will not be won by division. It will be won by a shared commitment to purpose, a belief in ideas, and the determination to place country above self. Ghana’s progress demands nothing less,” he stated.
Mr Opoku Mensah's comments come at a time of heightened tensions within the NPP following recent controversies involving Kennedy Agyapong. While some party supporters have called for disciplinary action against the former presidential aspirant, others have appealed for reconciliation and greater unity as the party prepares for the next general election.
