The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Kantaka, has stated that former Gender Minister Sara Adwoa Safo is the rightful heir to the legacy and leadership structure of the late industrialist.
The announcement comes amid a deepening succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission, following a violent incident at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, during a disputed installation attempt involving Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena.
The incident left Adwoa Safo injured and has since triggered police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, the family said Adwoa Safo, who is also the Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family, was formally appointed in 2024 following the revocation of an earlier succession arrangement in favour of Israel Safo.
The family explained that the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo initially named his son as successor in 2017, entrusting him with leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission and its business entities.
However, it stated that concerns over management and changes to foundational principles of the church led to the reversal of that decision in 2024.
According to the statement, the late founder subsequently removed the mandate earlier granted to Israel Safo and restructured the succession framework.
He then appointed his daughter, Hon. Adwoa Safo, as head of the family and positioned her within the revised leadership roadmap.
"Thereafter, Apostle Kwadwo Safo appointed his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, as Head of the Family and established a succession roadmap for the future leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission," the statement read in part.
