NACOC dismantles cannabis production hub in Volta Region, arrests 3

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has dismantled a suspected cannabis production and storage hub in the Volta Region, arresting three individuals in a targeted overnight operation.

The intelligence-led raid was carried out at Koleonu, Wegbe and Akplamafu, where the facility was believed to be operating as a centre for the cultivation, processing and distribution of cannabis and hashish oil.

Acting on credible intelligence, NACOC’s tactical team stormed the location in a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to the illicit drug network.

The Commission described the exercise as part of its sustained efforts to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking operations across the country.

"The carefully coordinated operation led to the successful arrest of three principal suspects allegedly linked to the illegal drug trade," read part of a news release issued on Monday, June 22.

According to NACOC, the raid forms part of broader interventions aimed at identifying and eliminating narcotics supply chains that pose a threat to public safety and community wellbeing.

The Commission added that the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to help authorities trace wider networks and collaborators linked to the operation.

"The suspects are expected to aid ongoing investigations as NACOC work to uncover additional collaborators and trace supply routes connected to the operation," it stated.

NACOC further cautioned that it will intensify its crackdown on illegal drug activities, warning that individuals involved in narcotics trafficking will face the full rigours of the law.
