A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team in the Biakoye Constituency, Mr. Tsutey Yakubu, has expressed strong doubts about the commitment of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, to the fight against corruption—particularly regarding the ongoing case involving former Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori‑Atta.
Speaking on the Bubune FM Breakfast Show hosted by Nana Yaw Asiamah on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Mr. Tsutey alleged that the prosecution of Mr. Ofori‑Atta is unlikely to produce any meaningful results.
According to him, the Special Prosecutor appears more inclined to shield the former Finance Minister than to pursue justice. He argued that Mr. Agyebeng has been inconsistent in his public pronouncements, often making statements that contradict his earlier positions.
Mr. Tsutey further contended that because the Office of the Special Prosecutor was established by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, and because Mr. Agyebeng was appointed under the same administration, questions naturally arise about his impartiality in cases involving former government officials.
He maintained that Mr. Ofori‑Atta could be prosecuted in absentia, citing the case of former MASLOC Chief Executive, Madam Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, as precedent. He questioned why the Special Prosecutor appears willing to wait for Mr. Ofori‑Atta to return to Ghana before proceeding with prosecution.
According to Mr. Tsutey, this posture only deepens public suspicion that the process is a public relations exercise designed to allow the former Finance Minister to evade accountability.
He therefore called on the Attorney‑General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to take over the matter and ensure that Mr. Ofori‑Atta is prosecuted if sufficient evidence exists. Such action, he argued, would serve as a deterrent to public officials who may be tempted to engage in corrupt practices.
Mr. Tsutey also stated that if Mr. Ofori‑Atta genuinely believes he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him, he should voluntarily return to Ghana and defend himself through the legal process.
“Kissi Agyebeng’s public commentary on the matter has exceeded his actual performance,” he alleged.
He further suggested that additional individuals could eventually be implicated in the case, arguing that the allegations against the former Finance Minister involve actions that may have required the involvement or support of other persons.
