The Convener of Mawuleme Movement, Prince Amevi, has called on the Ho Municipal Assembly to intensify public education on National Sanitation Day and to use radio more regularly to announce the monthly exercise.

Speaking in an interview on Stone City Radio 90.7 in Ho on June 19, 2026, Mr. Amevi said many residents still do not appreciate the importance of the sanitation campaign. He urged the Assembly to make public announcements ahead of each exercise to improve participation.

He also pushed for punitive measures to be enforced against residents who refuse to join the clean-up exercises. According to him, fines and sanctions will deter unwillingness and ensure that the monthly exercise achieves its intended purpose.

Mr. Amevi lamented what he described as poor coordination between the Assembly and Assembly Members in the various electoral areas. He said the lack of effective planning and supervision is weakening the impact of the sanitation drive across Ho.

The Convener also raised concerns about engineering challenges in some road projects and the need to beautify the dual carriageway median with trees. He said planting trees along the medians would enhance oxygen absorption and align with Ho’s identity as the “Oxygen City”.

“You can bet with me that despite calling Ho the Oxygen City, if you go through some corners of Ho, you will know what’s going on,” he said. He added that aside from Sokode, where some trees have been planted, most entry points to Ho lack greenery. The Movement, he noted, is targeting that gap as part of its beautification drive.

To improve the city’s aesthetics, Mawuleme Movement is planning to create parks at open spaces, starting from the Ahoe roundabout. Mr. Amevi said the long-term goal is to make Ho the most beautiful and decorated city in Ghana and to position it as a modern green city in the Volta Region and beyond.

On enforcement, he revealed that the Movement had planned a “name and shame” campaign in June to publish photos of shops and individuals who dump waste indiscriminately.

However, authorities stopped the plan and asked them to focus on sensitisation. The campaign will now start in July. He also announced the formation of Mawuleme Eco Brigade clubs in basic schools to train pupils on waste segregation and environmental protection.

Mr. Amevi commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Stephen Adom, and Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, for their continuous support with tools and donations.
