The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged traders at the Anloga District Assembly Hall in a sensitisation programme on “Promoting Adolescent Health, Gender Equality, and Preventing Gender-Based Violence through Civic Engagement.”

The outreach forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen public awareness and strengthen community participation in addressing challenges affecting adolescents while fostering peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.

Participants were taken through key issues on adolescent health and development, with facilitators stressing the need for supportive environments that empower young people to make informed and responsible life choices.

Togbi Hatsu III, Director of NCCE in the Anloga District, underscored the importance of gender equality and the need to uphold respect and equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender.

He noted that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a pressing social concern with far‑reaching consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Market men and women were encouraged to identify early signs of abuse, challenge harmful cultural norms, and support initiatives that protect vulnerable groups—especially adolescents.

Togbi Hatsu III further highlighted the critical role of civic responsibility in preventing violence and promoting positive behavioural change. He urged participants to serve as ambassadors of change within their homes, workplaces, and communities by championing respect, dialogue, and healthy relationships.

Interactive sessions allowed participants to share experiences and propose practical steps to curb harmful practices while advancing adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The District Director reaffirmed that sustainable development requires collective responsibility and active citizenship in promoting adolescent well‑being, gender equality, and a violence‑free society.

The initiative is being implemented by the NCCE in collaboration with UNFPA, with funding support from Global Affairs Canada.
