Vice President to launch revised National Cultural Policy

The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is set to officially launch Ghana's Revised National Cultural Policy on June 9.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts announced this in a press statement on Thursday.

It stated that the revised policy would provide a renewed framework for preserving, promoting and harnessing Ghana's cultural heritage to support national development, social cohesion, economic growth and creative innovation.

According to the Ministry, the policy has been updated to reflect current national and global developments, including the expansion of the creative economy, advances in technology, cultural tourism, youth empowerment and cultural education. It also addresses the protection of Ghana's tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The Ministry said the revised policy seeks to position culture as a key pillar of sustainable development and nation-building while creating opportunities for creative entrepreneurs and strengthening cultural institutions across the country.

“The launch is expected to bring together government officials, traditional authorities, development partners, representatives of the creative and cultural industries, academics, civil society organisations, cultural practitioners and members of the diplomatic community” it said

The Ministry expressed confidence that the implementation of the policy would help promote cultural diversity, strengthen national identity and support the government's broader development agenda.
