Former Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has described the government’s 24-hour economy policy as a “scam” and “dead on arrival”.

He argued that the policy, introduced by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a vehicle to boost job creation and productivity, lacks the necessary structure and funding to succeed.

Dr. Amin Adam said the policy, as being implemented, is heavily skewed towards the public sector, where agencies are being pushed to operate round the clock without corresponding increases in staffing and resources.

The Karaga MP, who is also the Ranking Member on Parliament's Finance Committee, cautioned that such an approach is unsustainable and could strain the national wage bill.

Dr. Amin Adam also raised concerns about expectations that the policy would generate mass public sector jobs, noting that government finances cannot support such expansion.

He further claimed that the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat is underperforming due to lack of funding.

According to him, out of the GH¢110 million allocated this year, disbursement has been limited, leaving the secretariat “in coma”.

“The policy is dead on arrival. It is a scam!” the lawmaker stated.

Dr. Amin Adam instead urged a private sector-led approach, arguing that the state should focus on creating an enabling environment rather than directly expanding public sector operations.

If the 24-hour economy is a scam, then Agenda 111, one village, one dam, and swimming pool hole, instead of a cathedral at a cost of over 58 million dollars, are all scams. The NPP will have a taste of their own dirty campaign or tactics that they applied against the ruling government. By God's grace, we shall still be alive to silence you people once and for all in 2028. You people don't have respect for Ghanaians; they will teach you a lesson that will put a lot of you in mental institutions.
