President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct a permanent convention and exhibition centre in Kwahu to host the Kwahu Business Forum and other major events.
Speaking at this year’s forum, he disclosed that government is in discussions with Metalex and Trassaco to develop the facility, which he said will transform Kwahu into a leading destination for conferences and exhibitions.
“We are working with Metalex and Trassaco to build a permanent convention, conference, and exhibition centre on this site,” he said. “We want it to become a centre for conferences and exhibitions, not only in Ghana, but for organizations that come from outside Ghana to come and hold conferences and exhibitions here.”
He explained that the project will include spaces for performances, meetings and exhibitions, with the aim of boosting business tourism and stimulating economic activity in the enclave.
As part of a broader development agenda, President Mahama also revealed plans to construct an airstrip to support both domestic and international travel to Kwahu, particularly during large scale events.
He further pledged to upgrade the road network in the area to ease congestion, especially during peak periods such as Easter.
“We're also going to improve the whole road network in the whole area so that the congestion that is normally created will reduce,” he stated.
The President expressed confidence that future administrations will sustain and expand support for the Kwahu Business Forum, which continues to serve as a key platform for promoting investment and entrepreneurship.
Highlighting developments in agriculture, he pointed to the progress of Nobi Farms, describing its large scale rice production as a model for growth.
“I was there about two weeks ago, and it’s impressive what Nobi Farms has done — seven thousand hectares of rice under irrigation, with all year-round harvesting,” he said, adding that new financing will support the establishment of a processing mill to boost value addition.
