Big Push road projects in Greater Accra progressing steadily — Roads Ministry

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has reported that ongoing Big Push road projects across the Greater Accra Region are progressing steadily.

The initiative covers major road corridors aimed at improving mobility and easing congestion within the capital and its adjoining areas.

In a news release shared on Wednesday, April 1, the ministry noted that the works remain on course for completion by the end of 2027.

The projects under construction include the Accra–Tema Motorway Expansion, the Tema–Aflao Road, the Dodowa–Afienya–Dawhenya Road, and the Adenta–Dodowa Road.

These routes are expected to enhance connectivity between key urban and peri-urban communities.

This comes after the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, together with Deputy Minister Alhassan Suyuhini and engineers from the ministry and its agencies, inspected the ongoing works on Tuesday, March 31.

The inspection formed part of efforts to assess progress on the strategic road network projects, which the ministry describes as critical to supporting economic activity in the region.

Briefing the media after the tour, Agbodza expressed satisfaction with the level of work done and indicated that contractors are being paid for certified work completed.

“The projects were on schedule to be completed by end 2027,” he said.

He further explained that government has settled all contractors who have submitted valid work certificates under the “Big Push” programme.

“The BIG PUSH is about precision, quality, speed and value for works… It’s beyond roads. It’s about capacity building for the next generation of local contractors,” he added.

The ministry further noted that the programme remains a key infrastructure intervention designed to improve transportation and support long-term development across the Greater Accra Region.
