Accra, Ghana — Migration Web Africa has issued an urgent call for de-escalation amid rising tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, warning that continued hostilities could deepen humanitarian crises across the Middle East and expose migrant populations to severe insecurity.
The organisation noted that the recent exchange of military actions and retaliatory strikes threatens regional stability and has already resulted in loss of life and widespread humanitarian concern. It urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and commit to diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the crisis peacefully.
“Conflicts of this nature often expose migrant communities to heightened vulnerabilities,” said Hayford Yeboah, Executive Director of Migration Web Africa. “Governments and international institutions must ensure that the protection of migrants and civilians remains central to all humanitarian responses.”
Migration Web Africa expressed particular concern for the millions of migrants and foreign workers living and working across the Middle East. Many of these workers—predominantly from African and Asian countries—face increased risks during armed conflicts, including limited access to protection mechanisms, evacuation support, and essential services.
The organisation warned that further escalation could trigger broader displacement and place additional pressure on neighbouring countries already hosting significant refugee populations.
Migration Web Africa is therefore calling on all parties to:
- de-escalate hostilities and prioritise diplomacy
- respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians
- ensure the safety and dignity of migrants and displaced persons
- facilitate humanitarian access and evacuation pathways
- strengthen international cooperation to address the humanitarian and migration impacts of the crisis
The organisation reiterated that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most sustainable pathways toward lasting stability and human security.
