The Council of Bono and Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) has urged Ghanaians at home and abroad to support job creation efforts as the country marked its 69th Independence Anniversary last Friday.
Dr. Degraft Gyan Kwafo, Chairman of COBAANA, made the call in an interview with the media in Sunyani on Friday to commemorate the anniversary.
He said Independence Day should serve not only as a celebration of Ghana’s freedom but also as a moment for reflection and renewed commitment to national development.
Entrepreneurial ventures
Dr. Kwafo encouraged Ghanaian associations and individuals in the diaspora to play a more active role in addressing youth unemployment by investing in businesses, industries, and entrepreneurial ventures that can generate sustainable jobs.
He noted that many Ghanaians abroad possess valuable skills, experience, networks, and financial resources that could significantly contribute to economic growth in Ghana.
According to him, tackling youth unemployment requires collective action from citizens both at home and abroad and urged diaspora groups to support start-ups, establish businesses, and invest in initiatives that create employment opportunities for young people.
Dr. Kwafo also called on Ghanaians to support the government’s “Big Push Agenda,” which focuses on infrastructure development and economic transformation.
He stressed that national development cannot be achieved by government alone but requires the collaboration of the private sector, traditional leaders, civil society, and the diaspora.
He further urged unity, patriotism, and a stronger sense of responsibility among Ghanaians, emphasizing that the country’s progress depends on collective effort.
Dr. Kwafo reaffirmed COBAANA’s commitment to development in the Bono and Ahafo regions, including plans to support projects such as the proposed Dialysis and Medical Center in Sunyani.
