Yendi Police arrest two for impersonating President Mahama’s son on TikTok

Police in Yendi have arrested two people for allegedly posing as Sharaf Mahama, the son of President John Dramani Mahama, on TikTok.

The suspects, a man and a woman, are accused of running a fake TikTok account under the name Sheriff Mahama, which drew more than 7,500 followers and thousands of likes. Police identified the male suspect as Abdul Rahaman Zakaria.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on online impersonation and other internet-related offences that mislead the public and damage reputations.

The police said the suspects are currently assisting with investigations as officers work to establish the full scope of the activity linked to the account.

Police have cautioned the public to be vigilant when engaging with social media accounts claiming to belong to public figures, urging users to verify identities before interacting or sharing information.

They stressed that impersonation is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law and warned that offenders will be dealt with accordingly.
