The Communications Director of the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama’s handling of the economy.
According to him, the President has succeeded in stabilising the economy compared to its state a year ago.
Owusu made the remarks while speaking on Economic and Policy Review on Accra-based Prime Morning Show on Monday, December 22.
“So far, I dare say President Mahama has stabilised the economy,” he said.
Ghana’s inflation rate has fallen for the 11th consecutive month, dropping to 6.3% in November 2025, the lowest level since the country’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rebasing in 2021.
Data released by Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, show a decline from 8.0% in October and a sharp fall from the 23.8% recorded in December 2024.
The exchange rate has also shown signs of stability, with the cedi trading at about GHS11 to the dollar after periods of rapid depreciation.
The UP spokesperson attributed the development to what he described as prudent economic management, noting that the President has appointed fewer ministers than the 60 he initially indicated.
“Mahama said he would appoint 60 ministers, yet the current number is below 60. What that tells me is that this country could have been managed with fewer ministers. So why have we encouraged having more ministers in our system?” he asked.
