Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has formally assumed office following the presentation of his credentials to U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House.
The ceremony, held at the Roosevelt Office, brought together 15 newly accredited ambassadors, with Ambassador Smith notably becoming the first envoy to be received by the American President during the session.
The moment carried a relaxed atmosphere when President Trump, upon greeting the Ghanaian diplomat, made a light-hearted remark about his appearance, prompting laughter and setting a friendly tone for the engagement.
Ambassador Smith used the occasion to express appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and enthusiasm about representing Ghana in Washington. He conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to nurturing its long-standing partnership with the United States.
Discussions during the brief interaction highlighted Ghana’s interest in deepening collaboration with the U.S., particularly in trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation. Ambassador Smith described Ghana as a stable democracy with a welcoming environment for foreign investors and a strategic partner in Africa.
The presentation of credentials officially marks the start of Ambassador Smith’s diplomatic assignment, as Ghana looks to advance its interests and strengthen bilateral ties with the United States.
