The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the ruling party of hypocrisy and failure in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking at a press briefing, Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP, said the NDC’s claims of being committed to ending the menace are baseless, especially given the worsening state of illegal mining under their administration.

According to Frimpong, the NDC has failed to make any meaningful progress despite having full control of state institutions and security agencies.

"When the NDC was in opposition, they accused the NPP of not doing enough to fight galamsey because we were in government,” Frimpong stated. “Now that they are in power, with access to all the necessary resources and overwhelming institutional support, the situation has only deteriorated. That exposes their hypocrisy.”

Despite the criticism, the NPP extended an olive branch to the NDC, calling for a non-partisan, collaborative approach to effectively deal with the illegal mining crisis.

Frimpong emphasized that the NPP remains open to dialogue and joint efforts aimed at developing a comprehensive national roadmap to curb galamsey once and for all.

"Our doors are open for constructive discussions on how to tackle this national issue devoid of politics,” he said.
