Late Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings was able to unite NDC and NPP — Nitiwul

Member of Parliament for Bimbilla and former Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has eulogized the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings.

He described her as a rare political figure who was able to unite the country's two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in her final days.

Nana Konadu passed away on Thursday, October 23, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a short illness. She was 76 years old.

Paying tribute to her memory, Mr. Nitiwul said the late First Lady was not only a strong advocate for women’s rights but also a national figure whose legacy transcended political divisions.

“She’s not just the property of her family; she’s the property of Ghana. If you remember her very well, she stood and fought for women’s rights. She single-handedly made sure that women were recognized and empowered through her advocacy and activism,” the Bimbilla MP said.

“In her last days, you could see that she was very close to both the NDC and the NPP, and it’s not easy for one individual to do that. For me, the fact that she could unite both parties and still stand for the rights of women is something that will make her live long in the minds of Ghanaians,” he added.

The NPP lawmaker expressed hope that the late former First Lady’s contributions to Ghana’s democratic development and women’s empowerment would continue to inspire future generations.

Meanwhile, government has announced a three-day national mourning in her and directed all national flags to be flown at half-mast during the period.
