The Genius IT Foundation, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority, has held a media engagement aimed at expanding cybersecurity awareness under the CyberSecure Ghana Campaign, an initiative designed to promote online safety and responsible technology use among Ghanaians.
The engagement, held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, brought together media practitioners from the Volta Region to discuss strategies for the campaign’s official launch later this month.
Director of the Genius IT Foundation, Mr. Desmond, said the campaign seeks to empower citizens—particularly young people, students, and community members—to protect themselves from online threats. He explained that the goal is to make cybersecurity a shared national responsibility rather than one limited to government institutions.
“The Volta Region has been selected as a model region for digital safety because we believe community engagement here can set the pace for national change,” Mr. Desmond stated.
The CyberSecure Ghana Campaign will include several key initiatives such as the nationwide deployment of trained cybersecurity ambassadors across all 16 regions to educate the public and provide support; the translation of cybersecurity education materials into major Ghanaian languages to reach wider audiences; and youth empowerment programs that will transform schools and community centers into digital safety education hubs.
An Annual Cybersecurity Awareness Week will also be held in each region to reinforce public understanding of online safety practices.
According to the foundation, about 2,500 youth are expected to receive training in 2025, with plans to expand to six additional regions by 2026 and achieve nationwide deployment by 2027.
Media organizations participating in the campaign are expected to play a key role by introducing monthly cybersecurity education segments to increase public awareness and engagement.
The official launch of the campaign is scheduled for October 31, 2025, at the Ho Technical University (HTU) Afeti Auditorium. The event will bring together government officials, ICT educators, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, NGOs, and community influencers to promote digital responsibility and collaboration.
The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Education, the National Youth Authority, and several civil society organizations, who will jointly develop regional communication plans to ensure consistent public education on cybersecurity.
Regular meetings and progress reports will monitor the campaign’s impact, while partnerships among schools, local authorities, and organizations will help ensure sustainability.
The Genius IT Foundation envisions the Volta Region becoming a national model for digital safety and innovation, setting an example for the rest of the country.
With strong collaboration among stakeholders, the CyberSecure Ghana Campaign aims to build a safer, more resilient, and digitally empowered Ghana.
