A Quick Note To MAST - On Developing Ghanaian Floating Coastal Communities To Prepare For Rising Sea Levels With Nkrumahs Legacy Of State-Owned Assets

Dear MAST,
It's a pleasure to see one of the creative ideas we've floated in our writing over the years finally being demonstrated in your amazing work creating floating communities to counter the existential threat of rising sea levels globally flowing from a warming planet.

Our far-sighted first post-independence leader, President Kwame Nkrumah, established a number of state-owned companies, including a glass-making factory, a shipyard, and a state housing company that employed architects. Paradoxically, all those companies have struggled to survive, with some being sold cheaply to private entrepreneurs.

We also have a tradition in the beautiful and bountiful Western Region of skills honed by maintaining the Nzulezu community, a famed indigenous Nzema floating community located there. Ghana has all the needed assets to enable you to partner with the private sector here to transform the future of our coastal communities and low-lying flood-prone communities in places like Accra's Weija wetlands township, which were previously considered doomed to disappear as rising sea levels eventually engulf them – despite significant investments in sea defence walls in some coastal towns.

Coastal towns slowly disappearing from sea erosion, such as the Volta Region's Keta, await your entry into the Ghanaian market! We suggest working with professional bodies here, with the noted architect and compiler of Ghana's architectural history, the brilliant Kojo Derban, as your liaison and country lead.
