The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has assured residents that concrete measures are being taken to address the persistent water shortage facing the constituency.
Speaking during the Volta Water and Sanitation Dialogue (VWSD), organized by CFF-Gh on Sunday, Hon. Kpotosu described the initiative as timely, noting that it sheds light on critical issues that have long been overlooked.
He emphasized that water scarcity has become one of the most pressing challenges in the constituency, attributing it to rapid population growth that has outpaced the available water supply.
The MP revealed that significant engagements have already been made, with positive feedback received, adding that plans are underway for a comprehensive project to permanently resolve the problem. “We are working towards a one-time project that will cure the water shortage issue within the constituency,” he assured.
Hon. Kpotosu also called on individuals and the media to play a more active role in promoting good sanitation practices. He suggested that a system where people pay for the waste they generate could help reduce indiscriminate disposal and improve public hygiene.
The water crisis in Ho and surrounding communities has been worsened by the breakdown of the Kpeve water supply pump, which serves the municipality. Increased demand due to population growth has forced the Ghana Water Company to ration water, leaving many households without reliable access.
Although the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, and the Ghana Water Company have made temporary interventions, the situation remains unresolved. Efforts are ongoing to extend supply from Akrofu directly to Sokode, one of the worst-hit areas, with new pumps already supplied.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Health Department has warned of a rise in typhoid cases among food vendors in the municipality, linking it to the current water rationing.
Residents remain hopeful that the proposed project, once implemented, will provide lasting relief and improve access to safe water across the constituency.
