Ketu North, Ghana – In an era when public trust in politics is waning, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, is emerging as a powerful exception. Barely seven months into his first term, Hon. Agbana has made significant strides across education, healthcare, infrastructure, environment, and youth empowerment, delivering a performance that is earning widespread national attention and international admiration. His bold, reformist approach underscores a new standard of parliamentary leadership, one grounded in innovation, equity, and rapid results.
Transforming Access to Education and Digital Inclusion
At the heart of Hon. Agbana’s developmental agenda is education. In March 2025, he launched the Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme, a pioneering initiative that has disbursed GH₵1.3 million in scholarships to over 420 tertiary students, including 22 students with disabilities and 25 young women pursuing careers in STEM. He has further committed 50 per cent of his personal salary to sustain this effort, exemplifying personal sacrifice for public good.
Beyond financial assistance, he has enhanced digital inclusion by donating 10 additional laptops and 2019 iMac desktop computers to several institutions, including the Municipal Education Directorate and Ohawu Agricultural College. Fifty desktop computers were also distributed to 23 schools to strengthen ICT education across the constituency.
In partnership with the Adenta Central Rotaract Club, Hon. Agbana commissioned an ICT laboratory and a library at Kuli Dzogbefuime Basic School, opening new frontiers of learning in a rural community. He also facilitated the Girls in ICT Programme under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, equipping young women with 21st-century tech skills.
Through the provision of mathematical sets, special mock examinations, and over 900 classroom desks in collaboration with Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi, Hon. Agbana has provided foundational tools that are critical for academic success.
Strengthening Healthcare Delivery
Health interventions under Hon. Agbana’s tenure reflects a strong commitment to community well-being. He has finalized stakeholder engagements for the completion of the long-stalled DZOSEC Infirmary Project, with construction expected to resume imminently.
In the interim, his direct support to local health facilities has included delivery beds, medical supplies, and signage for the Ative CHPS compound and Tadzewu Clinic, targeting maternal health services in underserved communities.
In April 2025, his office organized a free eye screening and surgery exercise, reaching over 500 residents across the constituency. This initiative has been praised for its far-reaching impact on rural eye health.
Expanding Access to Safe Water
Recognizing that clean water remains a public health imperative, Hon. Agbana oversaw the construction of 20 mechanized boreholes across strategic communities in Ketu North. These projects, designed with sustainability in mind, now provide thousands with reliable access to potable water.
Environmental Protection and Agricultural Development
Hon. Agbana has not neglected the environment. In a historic move, he facilitated the establishment of the first-ever District EPA Office in Dzodze to ensure regulatory oversight of environmental activities. His Green Ketu North Project has led to the planting of over 10,000 tree seedlings aimed at promoting ecological sustainability.
He has also supervised the dredging of Weta farm canals, supported Water User Associations with fertilizer supplies, and advocated for dam reengineering, all targeted at increasing agricultural productivity.
Through diplomatic channels, he has engaged entities such as the Chinese Embassy, the Indian High Commission, and the European Union to explore long-term agricultural investment and development partnerships.
Infrastructure: Roads and Lighting Projects Underway
Ketu North is witnessing a revival in infrastructure development under Hon. Agbana’s leadership. Construction has commenced on the Ehi–Kuli–Dzodze road, while competitive bidding is ongoing for the Metrikasa–Havedzi road and the Dzodze–Penyi–Akanu Town road.
Simultaneously, his Light Up Ketu North initiative has begun transforming safety and mobility after dark. Streetlights have already been installed along key corridors, including Dzodze–Penyi–Zukpe and Dzodze–Kave Junction, with further expansion scheduled for Atiteti, Dzadokpo, Dekpor, and Devego.
Job Creation, Youth Empowerment, and Global Exposure
The EDEMPOWER 500 Programme is a flagship intervention that seeks to train 500 youth annually in technical and vocational skills. Additional support to artisans, particularly seamstresses and tailors, has been rolled out to encourage economic independence.
Hon. Agbana has also helped constituents secure jobs at institutions such as the DVLA, EPA, and other public agencies, as well as Work Abroad opportunities.
In a bid to expose youth to international platforms, his office has facilitated access to seminars and conferences in South Africa, China, India, and Russia through strategic partnerships with embassies and global institutions.
Sports, Arts, and Talent Development
Understanding the power of sports and culture in social transformation, Hon. Agbana has supported inter-zonal and inter-district school competitions, backed the four senior high schools in Ketu North at the Inter-Schools Sports Festival, and provided sports kits and jerseys to schools and communities.
In arts and entertainment, he has facilitated collaborations for emerging musicians and provided football scouting opportunities that resulted in the selection of four young players to pursue professional football pathways.
A New Model of Leadership in Ghanaian Politics
Seven months on, Hon. Edem Agbana’s track record in Ketu North is drawing attention not just for its scale, but for its intentionality and community-driven focus. His leadership reflects a rare fusion of strategic governance and grassroots engagement.
With bold investments in education, health, water, agriculture, infrastructure, youth development, and international diplomacy, he is redefining what it means to be a Member of Parliament in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
Hon. Edem Agbana is not just leading. He is inspiring a movement of progress and possibility.
