As part of their efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability, Blessed Care International Foundation, a non-governmental organization, in collaboration with the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), organized a comprehensive clean-up exercise at the Teshie landing beach in Accra on Friday, July 4, 2025.

The initiative, which forms part of the foundation's community development projects, aimed to contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals. The clean-up exercise involved the removal of debris, plastic waste, and other trash from the beach to prevent them from re-entering the sea.

Addressing the fisherfolk after the event, the Municipal Chief Executive of LEKMA, Hon. Israel Adjetey Otchwenmah, emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices along the shore. He revealed that the assembly's sanitation and health department has outlined plans to engage the community on health practices, education, and sanitation improvement.

"We commend Blessed Care Foundation for their life-changing initiatives, and we urge them to continue making a positive impact. The assembly is also committed to working with the foundation to improve the lives of the people," Hon. Adjetey Otchwenmah stated.

"We must work together to ensure our environment is clean and healthy. We will continue to support initiatives that promote sustainable development in our community," he added.

The Director of Blessed Care Foundation, Isaac Bortey, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in protecting the shore, particularly in fishing communities. He mentioned that his organization has implemented various initiatives, including health education, sanitation sensitization, and educational support, to promote sustainable lifestyles.

"We are planning of extending our support to other regions and communities, we have scheduled for a donation of educational materials to schools in others regions, relief items to victims of the recent dam spillage in Keta among other areas. We have been doing this exercise for sometime now and its impact is worth noting," he said.

The head of the fishermen, Nii Abossey III (Nii Wolei ats3), also emphasized the need for constant cleanliness in the community. He advised the youth involved in fishing to maintain good hygiene practices along the beaches.

"A clean environment is crucial for our health and well-being. We must work together to keep our community clean and beautiful," he stated.

The event was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director, members of the health and sanitation department, volunteers, fisherfolk, and other stakeholders.
