It is very sickening the way Kwadwo Mpianim, aided by Begyina Sekyi-Hughes and the likes of the political prostitute called Freddie Blay and those small-minded NPP MPs, are doing the kinds of things that make angry military men take up arms and overthrow civilian governments.
Kufuor and his Chief of Staff are doing nothing but stealing the nation's wealth and there is no other way to describe the abhorrent behaviour of Kufuor and Kwadwo Mpianim.
Look at the way Kwadwo Mpianim, a man who was virtually unemployed and struggling to manage a meal a day, is today the Chief of Staff and so apparently thinks that he must steal as much as he can so that he never gets close to the state of penury that he was in before the NPP found itself in government.
Long after the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat should have been closed down and Wereko Brobbey and his Team scattered in all directions looking for other means of livelihood, Kwadwo Mpianim has succeeded in pocketing a whopping $11.8 million claiming that the celebration is still on-going.
Obviously, the celebration is on-going only in the pockets and homes of Kufuor, Kwadwo Mpianim, their relatives, cronies, concubines, media acolytes and selected party apparatchiks.
To say the least, what happened in parliament last Monday, is repugnant to the extreme.
When The Ghanaian Lens mentions acts by civilian governments that make angry military men take up arms and overthrow so-called (we say so-called because the 2nd term of the NPP is questionable) democratically elected governments, we are only stating the facts and not because we want to stoke any flames, nor are we providing any justification for any soldier or group of soldiers to take up arms.
It is a truism that it is corrupt and thieving civilian governments that act as the catalyst that speeds up the coup reaction and the NPP government is doing nothing but stealing the nation's wealth and turning Ghana into the most corrupt nation on the African continent.
Of course, Ghana is currently the number one transit point for the illicit drug trade - a shameful crown that Kufuor has worn on our heads.
And indeed, were it not the case that coups are no more in vogue (we hope and pray it remains so), The Ghanaian Lens would not have been surprised that the military would have staged a coup a long time ago to kick out Kufuor and his thieving lot.
But beneath the grim happening in parliament last Monday, is some pinhole light that gladdens the heart of The Ghanaian Lens.
Hon Eugene Atta Agyepong, NPP MP for Abetifi, has scored high marks in the eyes of this paper.
The Honorable Eugene Atta Agyepong, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, unable to stand not only the arrogance of Kwadwo Mpianim, but also the stealing agenda of the Chief of Staff, did not hide his disgust and displeasure at what was happening, and openly took Kwadwo Mpianim on.
The MP could not let his conscience haunt him and so threw his party coloration away and did what was right by his conscience.
He took Kwadwo Mpianim on and wondered why the arrogant Chief of Staff did not want to consider lobbying (a legit tool in parliamentary matters) for the approval of the money but rather chose to play God and virtually shouting at the NPP MPs to approve the money at all cost.
According to the MP, it was “unwise” for the NPP to be borrowing such a huge sum of money from a bank just to have fun.
The MP made it abundantly clear that until the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat properly accounted for the initial $20 million, it was highly “unacceptable” for parliament to give any money to Kwadwo Mpianim and co.
The Abetifi MP went further to state that the NPP must learn to use the taxpayers' money in a more “judicious” manner.
For those of us on The Ghanaian Lens, we say a big AYEKOO to Hon Eugene Atta Agyepong for his principled position on the matter of Kwadwo Mpianim asking for more money to go and swell his bank account.
Beyond partisan politics, there is a bigger life, and that is why we doff our hats for Eugene Atta Agyepong for looking at the bigger picture of maintaining his integrity and that of his constituency, rather than listening to the evil and stealing voice of Kwadwo Mpianim and doing the unthinkable.
It is very heartening to note that apart from Hon P.C. Appiah Ofori, a person like Hon Atta Agyepong, when push comes to shove, can also look in the direction of Ghana rather than look in the direction of NPP.
We say bravo to Eugene Atta Agyepong and can promise him that whilst Kwadwo Mpianim's empty threats not to “forgive” him for opposing the $11.5 million request means nothing, it means a lot to himself, his constituency, and the good people of Ghana, that in living up to his “honorable” title, he did the honorable thing and spoke for Ghana instead of speaking for the NPP.
Hon Eugene Atta Agyepong, The Ghanaian Lens respects you for what you did, and we hope and pray that this is the beginning of your charting a path that would make the likes of reckless Kwadwo Mpianim hate you, but would raise you onto higher grounds in the eyes of right-thinking Ghanaians.
Good name is certainly better than riches and on this score, Eugene Atta Agyepong has given himself a good name.
