E/R: Rehabilitation works begin on Koforidua-Suhum road to ease commuter struggles

Portions of the Koforidua-Suhum main road are currently undergoing rehabilitation to provide relief for commuters who rely heavily on the route.

Several sections of the road, particularly within the New Juaben North Municipality, have deteriorated significantly with deep potholes, posing a serious challenge for drivers who use the road daily.

During a brief ceremony to launch the repair works, New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive, Samuel Adongo, emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation. He highlighted the importance of improving road conditions to enhance the daily experience of commuters.

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing road infrastructure. According to him, ensuring accessible and well-maintained roads across the municipality is essential to local development.

In addition to road improvements, Hon. Samuel Adongo reaffirmed his commitment to upgrading essential services in the municipality. He stated his determination to improve education, healthcare, and sanitation, and to tackle the persistent challenges faced by those sectors.

He also revealed plans to establish modern market centers and lorry stations to reflect the status of the municipality and enhance revenue mobilization efforts.

Some drivers, elated by the commencement of repairs, praised the MCE and the government for their swift response to the concerns of road users. They urged the authorities to ensure that the work is completed on time and to the required standard.

Drivers lamented that the poor road conditions had increased their operational costs, forcing them to frequently replace vehicle parts damaged by the bad roads.

The Koforidua-Suhum road had previously been awarded on contract under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government. However, the contractor is yet to fully begin work, leaving commuters with no option but to use the deteriorated road.

The ongoing rehabilitation, led by the Assembly with the use of DRIP machines, is intended to serve as a temporary relief measure until the contractor officially commences full-scale reconstruction.
