
April 15th is TAX DAY; the deadline for every person with earned US Sourced income to file their tax returns even for non-citizens. All US citizens, including dual citizens, must file tax returns regardless of where they live in this world. The United States of America taxes its citizens on their worldwide income.
TAXING DUAL CITIZENS
As the Mahama government seeks to relieve the everyday Ghanaian from burdensome taxes in the country, one area to explore is the taxation of the worldwide income of all dual citizens especially those living in the country.
1. Yes, the income of all persons holding both Ghanaian passports and foreign passports should be included in the tax net if the person intends to influence events in Ghana.
2. In addition, anybody in Ghana regardless of citizenship seeking to explore and enjoy the comfort and tranquility of the country Ghana for their benefits must be levied a fee.
For example, there are many folks who have relocated to Ghana enjoying the comfort and peace of the country whiles still sourcing income from whatever companies they may work for. These folks may or may not hold Ghanaian citizenship. However, they are benefiting from the country for which reason they are here in Ghana.
As stated in a previous article on ‘Betting Tax,’ there must be at a Flat Tax on the Gross Revenue on all Multinational Companies operating in the country and a complete elimination of all tax-breaks for all foreign companies.
The country cannot be over-burdening its locals whose annual income can barely sustain them with a bunch of nuisance taxes while leaving out a very significant populace also benefitting from the country.
