FOSDA to sensitize SHSs students on dangers of small arms and light weapons

The Foundation for Security Development in Africa (FOSDA) is set to embark on an education drive in senior high schools to sensitize students about the dangers of small arms and light weapons.

The initiative aims to curb gun-related incidents among secondary school students in Ghana which is becoming rampant.

The Executive Director of FOSDA, Theodora Williams Anti, announced the education drive during an interview on Otec FM's morning show "Nyansapo," hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng, on Friday.

The initiative is in response to the recent tragic shooting incident at Bantama Adventist Senior High School, which left a 16-year-old female student partially blind.

Objectives of the Education Drive
The education drive, according to Theodora Anti will center on the effects of small arms and light weapons' proliferation, acquisition, and usage.

“FOSDA aims to educate young people about the negative consequences of these weapons to prevent them from becoming obsessed with gun acquisition and usage,” she stated.

Importance of sensitization
Theodora W. Anti emphasized the importance of sensitizing young people on the dangers of small arms and light weapons.

She believes that “by educating students about the risks associated with these weapons, FOSDA can help prevent future incidents and promote a safer environment for students.”

She added that the initiative is part of FOSDA's efforts to promote security and development in the country.

“By addressing the issue of small arms and light weapons, FOSDA aims to contribute to a safer and more secure environment for young people,” she further said.
