The Acting Director of Revenue Policy at the Ministry of Finance, Daniel Nuer, has confirmed that significant steps are being taken to repeal several taxes introduced by the previous administration.
This follows a proposal by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who, during a budget discussion in Parliament on March 11, outlined plans to scrap the 10% Betting Tax, the COVID Levy, and the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
Speaking at a post-budget discussion webinar hosted by Lima Partners, Nuer disclosed that the government has already begun engaging Parliament to facilitate the necessary legal processes for these tax eliminations.
He expressed confidence that, unless unforeseen challenges arise, the relevant bills will be approved by the end of March, paving the way for implementation to begin in April.
“We have already started engaging Parliament on the necessary legislation for removing these taxes and levies. Now, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect that these bills will be passed by the end of the month. So, by April, we will start with the implementation,” he stated.
