Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie has officially assumed her role as the new Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, vowing to actively support and advance the government's vision for a modern and humane correctional system.
During her swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Monday, Baffoe-Bonnie articulated her commitment to instigating comprehensive reforms that will align closely with the administration's strategic objectives for the prison system.
“This government’s mission for a progressive and humane prison system inspires us all,” she stated emphatically. “I am dedicated to working tirelessly to realize this vision and to lead the next critical phase of modernization and transformation of the Ghana Prisons Service, ensuring that our facilities not only rehabilitate but also reintegrate individuals as productive members of society.”
Baffoe-Bonnie's appointment is not an isolated development; it forms part of a broader initiative aimed at restructuring the security sector in Ghana. This initiative also involves significant leadership changes within other key institutions, including the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
However, it is noteworthy that the swearing-in ceremonies for Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, who has been designated as the acting Chief Fire Officer of the GNFS, and Samuel Basentale Amadu, appointed as the acting Comptroller-General of the GIS, have been postponed.
President Mahama explained that the postponement stems from procedural discrepancies inherent in the appointment processes of their respective services. Their official inductions are expected to occur as soon as their service boards are fully constituted and their appointments receive the necessary confirmations.
