The management of the University of Ghana has refuted what it describes as misleading reports concerning its recently held graduation ceremony.
On Monday, February 17, Accra-based Joy News shared a news card on its social media handles, indicating that the university had collected GHS11 million in graduation fees yet failed to provide medallions for graduands.
According to the university, this claim is “misleading and does not reflect the facts,” explaining that “if each of the 15,776 expected graduands pays the graduation fee of GHS500, the expected total should be GHS7,888,000 and not GHS11 million as falsely reported.”
The management further clarified that the GHS500 graduation fee per graduand covers multiple essential services and items, including rental of a graduation gown set, congregation publication, graduation medallion, scroll holder for the official graduation certificate, university souvenir, water, and administrative overheads.
“We want to put on record that the university provided all the above-listed items except for the medallions and scroll holders,” the statement noted.
Meanwhile, UG, in an earlier official notice dated February 10, 2025, had informed the graduands of procurement delays that would affect the distribution of medallions and scroll holders during the ceremonies.
The university assured graduands that the scroll holders and medallions would be made available at the appropriate time.
