Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, Nana Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, has been elected as the Council of State representative for the Bono East Region.
The 73-year-old, who also serves as the President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, secured 11 out of 22 votes cast, emerging victorious in a contest that featured 11 candidates.
The election took place at the Bonokyempim Hall in Techiman, with delegates from 11 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the region participating under heavy security presence.
Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour, a 65-year-old engineer, received 7 votes, while 40-year-old pastor Michael Kwasi Amponsah garnered 4 votes.
Meanwhile, seven other candidates, including former Techiman South MP Simmons Addai and People’s National Convention (PNC) Regional Chairman George Bauh Inusah, failed to secure any votes.
Speaking to the media after his victory, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V pledged to collaborate with assembly members across the region to tackle key challenges such as chieftaincy disputes and poor road infrastructure.
