The University of Ghana has commissioned a new Diamond Jubilee Hall accommodation facility to address student accommodation challenges.
The facility built, using an innovative cost-saving construction model and the Internally Generated Funds(IGF) is a legacy of the University's 75th anniversary celebrations.
The Diamond Jubilee Hall completed at a cost of GHS 55 million offers a variety of accommodation options, including 64 rooms with a shared bathroom and 184 double rooms with shared washroom facilities on each floor.
Each floor has washrooms and four kitchenettes coupled with reading rooms on all three floors, and one floor includes a TV room.
It has management offices and a maintenance unit as the hub for officers to address maintenance issues quickly.
Each room has its own electricity meter, accessible for recharging via a planned vending system.

Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, said the project was significant as it fulfilled the University's strategic priority of transforming student experience.
She acknowledged the long journey to completion, including overcoming legal and funding challenges.
The Vice Chancellor emphasised the unique construction model employed by the contractors and engineers of the project.
She explained that the project’s success stemmed from an innovative construction model.
“This model, integrating management and contracting methodologies with agile project management, fast-tracking, and value engineering principles, enabled the University to complete the project efficiently and at a significantly reduced cost,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor said the hall was available for students, stressing that the application process would be communicated to students soon.
She urged the students to be responsible stewards of the facility as the rooms were designed for their comfort.
The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to numerous individuals who played various roles in ensuring the success of the project, particularly Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate( PSMSD).
