Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Member of Parliament for Krowor and Minister-Designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has assured Ghanaians that the NDC administration’s Orphan and Vulnerable Support Scheme will not be politicised but will benefit all deserving individuals.
The scheme, outlined on page 118 of the party’s 2024 manifesto, is designed to create a safe environment for street children, trafficked children, and other internally displaced minors.
It also aims to facilitate family reintegration and school re-entry for these vulnerable groups while addressing issues such as child trafficking.
Speaking during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, Naa Momo Lartey reiterated that the scheme would operate without bias or favouritism in line with her personal values.
“I think one of the key things the manifesto proposes is to have the Orphan and Vulnerable Child Support Scheme, which is one of the protective measures for children and orphans. This scheme will serve as a special-purpose vehicle to ensure the safety of children, not just orphans but also those who fall prey to child trafficking,” the Minister-Designate explained.
“Everyone who knows me will attest that I see a person as a person, devoid of partisan coloration. So, if I’m tasked with serving a particular group of people, it will be based on need assessment. For instance, if there are individuals within my party who clearly don’t require support, they won’t receive it. However, anyone who genuinely needs help and falls within the need bracket will be supported,” she added.
