Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region, has locked his Facebook profile following revelations by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of Parliament’s Oral Committee, concerning the acquisition of state land at a heavily discounted price.
The MP, known for his active social media engagement, reportedly restricted access to his profile to prevent public commentary and criticism.
While his profile is now locked, his Facebook page remains accessible, though it has not been updated since November 21, 2024.
The controversy stems from Ablakwa's exposé, which accused Osei Nyarko of purchasing prime state land in Cantonments under questionable terms.
According to Ablakwa, records from the Lands Commission show that the MP acquired a 99-year lease for the property starting January 1, 2021, at a ridiculously cheap price.
Ablakwa detailed that the deal required Osei Nyarko to pay an annual ground rent of only GHS 10,500 ($2,800) for the first four years, amounting to a total of GHS 42,000 ($11,200) by the end of 2024.
He described the arrangement as a glaring example of state capture, raising concerns about transparency and fairness in the management of public resources.
The exposé coincides with the opposition of the ORAL team by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of which Osei Nyarko is a member.
The NPP has labeled the team’s work as illegal and urged its members not to comply.
