Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, has criticized the reintroduction of road tolls, describing them as inefficient and costly.
In a social media post on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, he stated, “It doesn’t make sense to waste time and stress for an hour just to pay Gh₵1.”
He further remarked, “Toll Booths are a very expensive way to collect a fraction of the funds they waste.”
Bentil added, “But as usual we will be penny wise and pound foolish. Don’t comment if you don’t understand!!”

This statement follows Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s pledge to restore road tolls during his vetting on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Dr. Ato Forson emphasized the government’s commitment to reintroducing road tolls as a means to generate revenue for road maintenance.
“We are not running away from this promise. We are a party that honours its commitments, and if road tolls are a means to raise revenue, we will implement it,” he stated.
The debate centers on the efficiency and practicality of toll booths in generating revenue for road infrastructure.
