The Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana Chapter has successfully held its first-ever awards ceremony to honour dedicated members who have volunteered their time and resources in support of peace advocacy, particularly during the December 7 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Albert Tetteh Botchway, Board Chairman of the International Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana Chapter, emphasized the importance of the ceremony in motivating members, especially the youth who participated in a seven-day peace walk campaign.
The campaign, which began on November 21 at the Kumasi Manhyia Palace and ended on November 29 at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra, was instrumental in promoting peace and unity.
Dr. Botchway revealed plans to collaborate with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre to instil the spirit of peace in Ghanaians. He announced the establishment of an ultra-modern training centre aimed at training approximately 5,000 Ghanaian youth to become ambassadors of peace.

However, he noted that the organization's work has been significantly hampered by a lack of funding since government support ceased following the tenure of former President Jerry John Rawlings. Despite these challenges, the Scouts and Guides Fellowship remains committed to equipping the next generation of Ghanaians with the right attitude and mentality to lead the nation effectively.
The Scouts and Guides Fellowship, which has been in existence since 1907, with the Ghana Chapter established in 1957, is a voluntary, non-political organization for adults. It focuses on training youth to become good citizens by instilling values such as observation, discipline, smartness, and artisanal skills.
Dr. Edward Mettle-Nunoo, a Board Member of the Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana, highlighted the organization's role in instilling patriotism, loyalty, discipline, volunteerism, and leadership among Ghanaian youth. He stressed the fellowship’s non-political, non-religious, and non-ethnic stance, emphasizing its commitment to supporting all government initiatives that contribute to national development.
Dr. Mettle-Nunoo further outlined the vision for the proposed ultra-modern training centre, which will offer training in marketable skills, character development, first aid administration, and disaster management.

He expressed confidence that such initiatives would produce loyal, disciplined, and law-abiding citizens who are prepared to lead Ghana into a prosperous future.
The Scouts and Guides Fellowship Ghana Chapter continues to welcome individuals interested in joining its efforts to nurture responsible citizens who embody the principles of humility, discipline, and thoughtfulness, contributing positively to the nation’s growth.
