The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has called on the incoming administration of John Dramani Mahama to rid the judiciary of party members and activists affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, the outspoken MP stressed that the presence of politically aligned individuals in the judiciary could hinder the Mahama administration’s fight against corruption.
He emphasised that such a purge is essential to ensure justice and accountability.
“The Mills administration carried out about 35 prosecutions, but we had a judiciary that literally shielded appointees of the former government. That’s why one of the first things President Mahama must do is to purge our current judiciary, clean out the judiciary of party activists. That’s the first thing he must do in 120 days,” Sam George stated.
He further alleged that certain members of the judiciary are staunch supporters of the NPP and are positioned to protect the interests of the outgoing government.
“People sitting in the current judiciary setup who are more than national executives of the NPP, who are simply there to protect the looters of this current government, must go with this government. The Ghanaian people demand that President Mahama [take action], and we’ll insist he does, else President Mahama will have rebellion from within,” he added.
The president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, is set to be sworn into office on January 7, 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ghana’s governance.
