President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ghana’s security agencies to take decisive measures to curb the escalating incidents of lawlessness following the 7th December 2024 general elections.

In a national address on Tuesday, 10 December, the President-elect strongly condemned acts of vandalism and disruption allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Reports suggest these individuals have stormed several state institutions, ransacking offices and causing significant disturbances.

“These actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. I urge the President and the security agencies to act swiftly to restore law and order,” Mr. Mahama said during his address.

He emphasised the need for calm and respect for the rule of law during this critical transitional period.

“I’ve received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. While it is unclear who is behind these attacks, I condemn them in no uncertain terms. These acts must cease immediately,” Mr. Mahama reiterated.

The President-elect also appealed to the youth to redirect their frustrations into productive ventures rather than criminal activities.

“As I said during my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to vent their frustration through criminal enterprise. Instead, they must channel their anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation,” he encouraged.

Mr. Mahama called on Ghanaians to refrain from actions that could jeopardise the nation’s institutions and democratic processes.

He stressed the importance of unity and a collective commitment to rebuilding Ghana through peaceful means.

“We have fought hard for change, and now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to rebuilding the Ghana we want through unity. State power is still in the hands of the current administration,” Mr. Mahama noted.

In a firm appeal, Mr. Mahama urged the President and security agencies to take immediate and decisive steps to restore order and prevent further unrest.

“I call on the President and the security agencies to act decisively to curb the ongoing acts of lawlessness without delay,” he stated.
