Effia NDC Parliamentary Candidate Contests Election Results

Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Dokurgu, the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effia Constituency, has officially rejected the provisional election results that indicate Lawyer Isaac Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as the victor.

Mr. Dokurgu argues that historically, since 1996, the NPP has consistently secured victories in both presidential and parliamentary elections in the Effia Constituency.

He noted that NDC parliamentary candidates have generally received more votes than the presidential candidates in previous elections.

This year, however, he claims that John Dramani Mahama, the NDC's presidential candidate, secured a notable victory in the constituency.

Given this context, he contends that it would be expected for the NDC candidate to win the parliamentary seat rather than the NPP candidate.

Mr Dokurgu has suggested that there may have been irregularities, alleging that the NPP candidates have colluded with the electoral commission to manipulate the election results.

According to the contested results, the NPP candidate received 15,870 votes, whereas Mr Dokurgu garnered 13,892 votes.

Consequently, Mr Dokurgu has refused to endorse any electoral results and has issued a warning against any official declarations by the electoral commission favouring the NPP candidate, emphasizing that he has neither approved nor signed any results.

He has expressed his intention to pursue legal avenues to ensure that the electoral process is conducted fairly.

Meanwhile, Hon. Dokurgu posted on social media, "Thank you, Effia. My president, John Dramani Mahama, and I have both achieved victory for the first time in a while since 1996.

Any statement that contradicts this does not accurately reflect the results from Effia.

Notably, a total of 51,013 voters were anticipated to participate across 102 polling stations in the Effia Constituency during this election cycle.
