The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced Ghana’s ambition to establish itself as Africa’s leading digital hub through the introduction of a comprehensive Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (GDEP).

Speaking at the launch of the policy in Accra on Thursday, November 28, the Minister highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative, which she described as a pivotal step in the country’s technological evolution.

“This Digital Economy Policy and Strategy is our roadmap to positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s digital future. It will enable us to harness digital technologies to drive economic growth, create sustainable jobs, and improve service delivery for every Ghanaian,” she said.

The policy focuses on five broad areas: universal access and connectivity, digital government, digital skills and research, digital entrepreneurship, and data and emerging technologies.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful noted that expanding broadband access across the country and integrating digital services would play a significant role in consolidating past gains and charting a future of inclusivity.

She further emphasized the need for partnerships to bridge connectivity gaps and ensure that underserved communities benefit from the country’s digital transformation agenda.

“This sector holds the key to the transformation of our entire economy through technology, and we intend to lead the efforts to achieve that,” she noted.
