The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has launched a scathing attack on Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen.
His remarks follow Alan’s criticism of former President John Agyekum Kufuor for endorsing the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Kufuor is my uncle, and I hesitate to publicly criticise him. However, his endorsement has cast a significant shadow over his political career. Have you noticed how his comments have sparked negative reactions and criticism from the public? He has long been a respected figure in Ghana, so why would he choose to involve himself in partisan politics in this manner? His actions are regrettable, and he is venturing into dangerous territory,” Alan remarked in an interview with Oyerepa TV.
Speaking during a press conference in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi accused Alan Kyerematen of betraying the NPP and likened his actions to Judas Iscariot’s betrayal of Jesus Christ.
Chairman Wontumi also alleged that Alan’s actions were being orchestrated by former President John Dramani Mahama to attack Kufuor and the NPP.
“Alan Kyerematen has proven that he never loved the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Just like Judas betrayed Jesus, that’s the same way Alan Kyerematen has betrayed the NPP. It was Kufuor who discovered Alan Kyerematen. He made Alan an Ambassador and later made him Minister of Trade. Akufo-Addo also made you Minister of Trade. This is a big shame for you to insult President Kufuor. Shame on you,” Chairman Wontumi said.
In his address, Chairman Wontumi urged residents of the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the NPP, to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election.
“We appeal to Asanteman, everyone should go out and vote for the NPP. Let’s vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” Chairman Wontumi added.
