
The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, was honored with the Exemplary Leadership Award at Ghana’s Cyber Security Awards Night, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.
The award, presented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, celebrates her instrumental role in Ghana's digital transformation and her commitment to advancing the country’s cybersecurity and technology sectors.
As Minister, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful has spearheaded key infrastructure projects in the ICT sector and promoted digitalization and e-government services across Ghana. Under her leadership, the nation recently attained Tier 1 status in the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index, underscoring her dedication to strengthening cybersecurity standards. Beyond her work in cybersecurity, she has launched impactful programs like "Girls in ICT" and "Miss Geek," which encourage women and girls to pursue careers in technology, thus fostering greater gender diversity within the sector.
Her leadership has also driven substantial infrastructure development, bringing new schools, roads, and healthcare facilities to communities across Ghana and enhancing the quality of life for many citizens. Recognized globally for her contributions, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful has received accolades such as the CRANS MONTANA FORUM Gold Medal and the Digital Leader of the Year award, acknowledging her influence and dedication to digitalization. She has also been a strong advocate for digital equity, working to close the digital divide and ensure equal access to digital resources for all Ghanaians.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation received special recognition at the awards event for its support of the Cyber Security Authority and its role in advancing cybersecurity in Ghana. The Cyber Security Awards also celebrated additional changemakers who have provided vital digital leadership, contributing to Ghana’s recent success as a Tier 1 nation in the 2024 ITU Global Cybersecurity Index.
