The EC boss, Jean Mensa, is deliberately skewing the electoral process to benefit the ruling NPP administration and must be held accountable for her role in overseeing an electoral process fraught with irregularities. These actions are tantamount to an attempted overthrow of the constitutional order and warrant the immediate arrest and prosecution of Jean Mensa.
The illegal transfer of votes from the Tamale South and Sagnarigu constituencies to the Pusiga constituency in the Upper East region by a local Electoral Commission (EC) official is alarming. This incident is not just a localized problem but poses a grave threat to the democratic process in Ghana. It raises serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral register and the credibility of the Electoral Commission under Jean Mensa's leadership. While the suspension of the Pusiga EC official is a necessary first step, it is grossly insufficient to address the systemic issues within the EC that have facilitated such misconduct.
This unauthorized transfer of votes can be likened to a constitutional coup d'état. Just as a coup forcefully alters a nation's leadership against the will of the people, the illegal manipulation of votes undermines Ghana's democratic foundation. It subverts the sovereignty of the people by tampering with the electoral process and, in effect, disenfranchises voters. This is not just a violation of electoral laws but a direct assault on the constitution, warranting the most serious consequences for those involved including the EC boss.
Jean Mensa, as the head of the Electoral Commission, is ultimately responsible for ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. The Pusiga incident suggests either gross negligence or, worse, complicity in a broader scheme to manipulate the electoral register in favor of the current NPP administration. If such illegality can occur in one district, how many other cases have gone undetected?
The Pusiga case is not just an isolated administrative error but a direct attack on the democratic rights of Ghanaians. Jean Mensa has demonstrated that she is either incapable or unwilling to protect the integrity of the electoral process. Her actions are tantamount to an attempted overthrow of the constitutional order and warrant her immediate arrest and prosecution.
