The 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has engaged leaders of Ghana’s young medical professionals and students over challenges confronting them in their training and careers.

The meeting brought together the national leadership of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association (FGMSA), and presidents of medical students’ associations from across the country.

The discussions focused on training conditions, timely postings, welfare and career progression, with Dr Bawumia stressing the need for the concerns of young medical professionals to inform policy decisions.

“Yesterday, I met with the national leadership of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association (FGMSA), and Medical Students Association Presidents from across the country,” Dr Bawumia wrote in a social media post on Friday, September 11.

He said the engagement provided an opportunity for an “open and honest conversation” on the critical challenges facing young doctors and medical students.

“These are the brilliant minds who will carry the weight of Ghana’s healthcare system tomorrow, and their voices must shape our policies today,” he stated.
