His Royal Majesty Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, the Dormaahene, has called on Ghanaians living abroad to pool their resources and invest in the country’s mining sector.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that a larger share of the revenue from gold and other natural resources remains in Ghana to drive national development.
Speaking at a recent fundraising dinner organized by the Council of Bono and Ahafo Citizens in America (COBAANA), Dormaahene highlighted the critical role that the Ghanaian diaspora plays in national development. He advocated for the repeal of the law that currently bars dual citizens from contesting elections in Ghana, arguing that their involvement in the legislative process would bring valuable perspectives and skills to the country.
The COBAANA event, which aimed to raise funds for a new dialysis centre in Sunyani, brought together esteemed guests, dignitaries, and members of the Ghanaian diaspora. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II praised the potential for collaboration between Ghanaians abroad and national stakeholders, noting that their international exposure and expertise could significantly contribute to Ghana's progress.
He further underscored the substantial economic impact of remittances from Ghanaians abroad and stressed the need to reconsider their right to participate in shaping the country’s laws and policies. Dormaahene assured Ghanaians in the diaspora of his support, including providing land for investments that would foster economic growth and collaboration.
In addition to his advocacy for diaspora engagement, Dormaahene has made significant contributions to various sectors in Ghana, including environmental conservation, sports development, youth empowerment, and modernizing chieftaincy institutions. His leadership has led to the establishment of Aduana Stars Football Club, initiatives in reforestation, and entrepreneurship support.
The event also featured substantial donations towards the dialysis center, with Dr. George V. Samson, President and CEO of World Medical Relief, contributing $5 million worth of medical equipment and medicines. Dr. Nick Danso-Abram, Executive President of Nick Holdings, donated $50,000, while the Dormaahene and Sumamanhene collectively contributed $10,000. The Bono Regional House of Chiefs added $5,000 to the fund.
Dormaahene also invited Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians alike to join Dormaa in celebrating his silver jubilee and the Dormaa Kwafie Festival in December 2024, with the grand event scheduled for December 21 in Dormaa Ahenkro.
Accompanying the Dormaahene at the event was His Royal Majesty Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong II, Omanhene of the Suma Traditional Area. Both leaders emphasized the importance of traditional leadership in promoting national development, international cooperation, and cultural exchange.
